We practise gentle pruning (deadwood removal, crown thinning, weight reduction) rather than topping, which harms the tree in the long run. Olives get an open, goblet-shaped prune — one fruit per shoot — suited to local production. Umbrella pines are lightened in the crown to reduce wind loading from the mistral; avenue plane trees get an architectural winter prune.
For felling in confined settings (walled gardens, close to buildings, near power lines), we work by sectional dismantling under rigging: the tree comes down section by section, held on ropes and lowered to the ground without damage. Our kit (a platform where needed, a chipper, petrol and battery chainsaws) covers the whole job, right through to taking the arisings to a licensed waste site.
